Two Wandsworth children are devastated after a mystery thief made off with their pet chickens last week.

Matthew and Maisy Mcinally, aged 10 and seven, found their feathered friends missing on Friday when they came back from school.

The pair, who live in Wandsworth Common Westside, are appealing for anyone who has seen two Rhode Island Reds in their neighbourhood to call the RSPCA.

Their mother Sarah, 39, said: “I was in tears when I found out, and so were the children.

“I think they have probably ended up on someone’s kitchen table. I just hope they didn’t suffer- they’re harmless creatures at the end of the day.”

The chickens, named Jenny and Jemima, have been living with the family since they were ten days old.

The Mcinallys suspect they were taken on Thursday night by human hands, as the door to their run had been unlocked and opened.

The door to the shared garden was also left open, and fly tippers had dumped rubbish there.

Mrs Mcinally said: “They make lovely pets and they’re endearing little things. They have their own personalities.

“What’s next- the guinea pigs?”

If you saw anything or know where Jenny and Jemima are, call the RSPCA on 0300 1234 999.
