New Crystal Palace development coach Ronnie Jepson is relishing the chance to work with the club's young professionals and wants even more to make their debuts this season.

The former Gillingham manager joined the club earlier this month to help with the Eagles' young players and manage the reserve side, taking over from U18 coach Gary Issott.

Since Neil Warnock has been at the club 13 academy players have made their debut and Jepson is hoping his extra coaching will give others the chance to make an impact.

He said: "What we have is these young professionals who have signed deals and train with the first team and the manager feels they can do with some extra work to help them break through.

"I am just finding my feet at the moment but I knew about the Scannells and the Moses' and a lot of youngsters coming through and 13 have made their debut since the gaffer has been here so they are pushing their way into the first team.

"What I will do with the young players and the reserves is to try and mirror what the manager does with the first team and Keith Curle.

"That way they are well aware of their responsibilities when they come into the first team."

Jepson has worked with Warnock and assistant manager Mick Jones before when he played under them at Huddersfield Town in the mid-90s but has been out of work since leaving his assistant post at the Terriers in November.

"This is a good opportunity for me to get back into the coaching field and to further my education," he said.

"Under Warnock if you give him 110 per cent and be honest he will be good with you but anything less than that and you will soon find out what he thinks."
