If you want to get rid of an old vehicle and support a good cause donate it to Surrey’s firecrews.
They need old cars to hone their rescue skills which are put to regular use on Surrey’s roads.
Fire crews need to practice cutting apart vehicles so they can extract road accident victims from car crash wreckage..
Surrey Fire and Rescue Service will pick up cars free of charge in Surrey or on the border when you call 01737 242444.
Alternatively vehicles can be brought to the Headquarters in Croydon Road, Reigate RH2 0EJ, with the logbook and a letter of authority giving Surrey Fire and Rescue Service permission to use the vehicle for training.
For further details or to arrange a collection please call Gordon May at Surrey Fire and Rescue Service on 01737 242444.
The service has recently been made aware of companies impersonating Surrey Fire and Rescue Service, offering to pay for vehicles. The matter has been referred to Surrey County Council’s Trading Standards team, which it is now investigating.
A spokesman said: “We urge residents to be aware that we have placed no advertisements offering to pay for scrap cars in any local press, and any such adverts are unrelated to Surrey Fire and Rescue Service.”
