The family of a Balham man who died from a brain haemorrhage is seeking an internal investigation into his death, an inquest heard.
Frank Parrott, 66, of Nightingale Lane, died at St George’s Hospital a day after falling during a drinking spree on Clapham Common on May 27.
But Angela Faulkner, the paramedic on the scene, noted that Mr Parrott, an alcoholic and epileptic, had a deep cut on the bridge of his nose yet when the father-of-three was treated at St George’s he was diagnosed as having ‘no external injuries’.
Speaking at Westminster Coroner’s Court, Dr Paul Knapman said: “We can safely say the haemorrhage was caused by trauma but whether it was caused by a fall or an epileptic fit is unsure until the investigation is complete.”
The inquest was adjourned until Monday September 7.
In a separate but similar case just a week earlier than Mr Parrott’s death, a woman who had fallen and hit her head after a drinking session, also died at St George’s.
Westminster Coroner’s Court heard that doctors are still unsure how Sylvia Hoadley, of Amfield Crescent, Mitcham, actually got to the hospital as she arrived on her own.
Ms Hoadley’s condition then deteriorated in hospital and the haemorrhage worsened.
The 57-year-old, who allegedly consumed a bottle of vodka a day, died of ‘accidental causes’ according to Dr Knapman.
