A 17-year-old has died in hospital after injuries sustained in a police pursuit through Surrey on July 8.
Surrey Police said the teenager, who was suspected of driving a stolen car, failed to stop in Merton, sparking a chase from Metropolitan Police.
The force said the driver of the Mazda, who is understood from police sources to be from Merton and was being pursued by traffic police, crashed in Lammas Lane, Esher.
He died in Kingston Hospital at about 5.30pm on Wednesday, July 15.
Met officers were following the driver for about 10 miles before he collided with a Daewoo at about 4.50am.
He was taken to Kingston Hospital where he remained in a critical condition all week.
The driver and passenger in the Daewoo, who were also injured in the crash, have since been released from hospital.
The incident has been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).
A spokesman for Surrey Police said: “The Metropolitan Police have referred the collision to the IPCC, as it involved their staff and vehicle.
“A decision is awaited about how the investigation will be formally managed and the IPCC is attending Surrey to assess the situation. In the meantime Surrey Police are conducting an impartial investigation.”
Some members of the teenager’s family were at his bedside but formal identification has yet to take place.
