A sustainable community group from Tooting has been awarded £20,000 in funding from a government commission.
Transition Tooting (TT) was one of only four groups out of 178 applicants to receive an award from the TippingPoint Commission.
Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, Ed Miliband, presented the group with the award for its Trashcatchers Carnival - a project aimed to educate people about creating sustainable communities.
A spokesman for the group said through trash [rubbish] the Trashcatchers Carnival would “use art, carnival, celebration and the collective ingenuity of all the community to create a large scale promenade on the 2010 summer solstice”.
He added: “Using recycling as a metaphor we can build a vision of a low-energy future for Tooting and have a lot of fun in the process.”
