A woman died after plunging from the third floor of Centrale on Sunday morning.
Police, fire and ambulance services were called to the scene at about 11am after a woman started threatening to jump from the building.
Efforts to rescue her were in vain however, she could not be persuaded to come down and fell to her death in Tamworth Road.
Tram services were closed and the road was shut.
Watch Manager Adam Fuller from Croydon fire station was at the scene.
He said: “We secured the scene.
"She was threatening to jump when we got there and as we looked on she launched herself off.
“I think the police were still trying to get to her but she jumped before they could.
“It was not very pleasant.
“We were called just after 11am, we sent two fire engines and a fire rescue unit.”
London Ambulance were also called to the scene.
A spokesman said: “We were called at about 11.05am to reports of a fall from a building in Tamworth Road.
“We sent one ambulance crew and an officer. Sadly the woman was dead on the scene.”
