Crystal Palace's hopes of signing former Charlton Athletic winger Jerome Thomas look slim after he impressed in two pre-season games for Hull City at the weekend.
The 26-year-old, who was released by Portsmouth at the end of last season, was given a 10-day trial by Tigers boss Phil Brown last week and his impressive performances could have convinced Brown to offer him a permanent deal.
Palace manager Neil Warnock has voiced his admiration for Thomas and admitted he was a player he was considering but it now looks like any deal bringing him to south London would be a long way off.
On Saturday Thomas played the first half of Hull's 6-0 win over North Ferriby United, scoring the opening goal, before playing the second half of the 3-0 win over Winterton Rangers on Sunday, setting up the final goal of the match for Dean Marney.
Palace manager Neil Warnock is still intent on bringing another striker to the club before the start of the season in 19 days time but could also be set to miss out on Southampton's Stern John.
The Trinidad & Tobago striker is understood to have been offered a one-year deal by Palace but could decide to stay with Southampton in League One after new manager Alan Pardew confirmed he wanted to keep the out of contract forward.
