ENFIELD TOWN 4 CORINTHIAN CASUALS 2
Casuals' first friendly of this new season took place indoors at the David Beckham Academy last Thursday.
Enfield started to press forward from the start, but were held well by Casuals defence.
Matt Mann in goal cleared up easily anything that got past the defenders Lee Matthews, Yousef Matwali, Chris Horwood and Carlos Talbot. The midfield chased well with Gavin Cartwright dominant at centre and clever work by Glenn Boosey, who showed nice touches and won the ball well.
Paul Hunt looked lively and played nice passes to wing man Jamal Carr and centre-forward David Ocquaye. Luke Gay was nearly back to his known form and worked hard. After a spell of hard effort by both teams, Chris Horwood scored Casuals first goal on 23 minutes. Mann made a good save and the ball went on to eventually reaching Talbot who was fouled in the area and a penalty was awarded. Cartwright took the penalty and made it 2-0 to Casuals.
Enfield made Casuals work hard forcing four corners before the break; all of which came to nothing.
Both teams made changes at the start of the second half, but these only weakened Casuals, and inspired Enfield.
It was not long before Enfield’s extra efforts were rewarded.
Rudy Hall scored a good goal setting them on their way and he added to their total as the Casuals midfield lost its shape.
Mann who was left exposed gave away a free kick on the edge of the box and Minitti scored a stunning third. Mann made several more great saves as Enfield continued to press and a fourth goal by Chris Wild ended the scoring.
Overall, this was a good work out for Casuals, considering the large number of new faces, but they can take heart from the first half performance.
