A healthy baby who passed away hours after being put to bed died for no reason, an inquest has ruled.
Jahni McCalla, who was born on August 29, 2008, died of sudden unexplained death in an infant.
He had been put to bed by his father at their home in Selhurst on January 7 and at about 11.30am he went to check on Jahni to find he was not breathing.
He was taken to Mayday Hospital but doctors were unable to revive him and he was pronounced dead at 2.20pm.
Croydon Coroner’s Court heard on July 16 how the baby's body had been taken to Great Ormond Street Hospital for a post mortem examination but no cause of death could be found.
The coroner, Dr Roy Palmer, recorded a death of natural causes, and apologised to Jahni’s mother, who was present in the court, that no one could tell her why her son died.
He said: “It appears it was a tragic incident of sudden unexpected death in an infant.
“It is just something that sometimes happens.”
