A man appeared in court this morning was accused of carrying out an unprovoked daylight assault in a pizza parlour.

Arman Hussain, 20, from Craddocks Avenue, Ashtead, was charged with kidnap, section 18 wounding and two charges of blackmail and appeared before Redhill Magistrate's Court.

Mr Hussain was remanded in custody to appear at Guildford Crown Court on September 30.

At 4pm on Wednesday a man in his 20s, was in Circle Pizza, Chessington Road, West Ewell when another man entered and began hitting him over the head with a weapon.

The victim managed to get away from his attacker but the fight spilled outside into the parade of shops.

The assaulted man was driven away in a silver car which drove off in the direction of Epsom.

Just after 5pm he was found at Epsom General Hospital receiving treatment for a head injury.

Detectives are still appealing for any witnesses who may have seen the incident to come forward, particularly two schoolboys who were in Circle Pizza at the time and a woman who helped the alleged victim inside Epsom Hospital and let him borrow her mobile phone.

Senior investigating officer Detective Inspector Jackie Elkins said: “I want to talk to anyone who may have any information at all, not matter how small or insignificant it may seem, in order for those responsible to be brought to justice.”

Neighbourhood Inspector for Epsom and Ewell Ailsa Quinlan added: "I would appeal to all members of the community to do the right thing and come forward with as much information as possible to assist detectives with their enquiries.”
