A murderer who executed his disabled brother’s carer in public with a machine gun, before arranging to dump the weapon in a New Malden garden, may never be released from prison, the Old Bailey heard on July 17.

Andrew Denty, 30, who shot care worker Curtis Smith in the head and neck following a fight in a central London nightclub in July last year, was told by Judge Richard Hone he would serve at least 35 years for the crime.

The pair were preparing to leave the club on July 27 last year, following a night out with Mr Smith’s wheelchair-bound brother Clifford - himself a victim of gun crime - when an “altercation” took place.

The fight escalated into Denty brutally gunning down his victim with a Mac-10 machine pistol before fleeing the scene.

Police arrested Denty later that day, and a search of his car and north Lambeth home led to the discovery of spent bullet casing linked to the murder weapon, which was later discovered concealed in a child’s rucksack in an overgrown New Malden garden.

Judge Hone, sentencing, described Denty as “a cold blooded, arrogant and remorseless killer who carried out a public execution”.

He said: “You are an immensely dangerous individual - any decision to allow your release after 35 years will be a heavy responsibility.”
