Churchfields Recreation Ground in Weybridge is holding a sports day this weekend as part of the London 2012 Open Weekend.

The event, from 10am until noon on Saturday, July 25, is being run by Elmbridge Council’s sports development team and aims to celebrate art, culture, sport and everything that makes up the spirit of London 2012 Games.

Children aged eight and over are invited along with their parents, to take part in a number of activities such as football, rugby, rounders, volleyball and kwik cricket.

For more information, contact the sports development officer on 01372 474581, email sport@elmbridge.gov.uk or visit elmbridge.gov.uk/sport.

A further event being held on the same day, Art in the Open, will be the first open air art exhibition held in Churchfields Park.

It is open in the park’s basketball court from 11am to 5pm and will showcase a wide range of work by 20 different artists.

The event will give art lovers, buyers and collectors the opportunity to view and purchase work and the artists will be on hand to answer any questions.

Councillor Jan Fuller, portfolio holder for leisure and culture, said: “The sports day is an excellent opportunity for Elmbridge residents to get involved in sports activities, build up enthusiasm and spread the inspiration behind London 2012.

“I am delighted so many local artists have chosen Art in the Park to share their creations with the community. With such of variety of works on exhibit, everyone will see something they enjoy.”
