A man who confronted his son’s attackers armed with a steak knife has been sentenced to 10 months in prison.

David Rorison, 42, of Aspects, Throwley Way, Sutton, squared up to confront a group of three men who had assaulted his son during an incident in the early hours of December 6.

But he was tackled to the ground by watching bouncers after he drew the knife outside Chicagos nightclub on Throwley Road in Sutton.

At Wood Green Crown Court on Monday July 13 Mr Rorison was sentenced to 10 months in prison after being found guilty of having a knife in his possession.

During the trial bouncers Richard McElroy, Peter Camm and Billy Johns were praised for the way they helped the Rorison’s son while he was being attacked and then tackled Rorison and secured the knife.

Judge Sheridan, who said Mr Rorison’s sentence would have been longer had his partner not been expecting his baby, said the door staff had gone beyond the call of duty.

He said they had showed great public spirit in helping a man being assaulted when they could have stayed by the door and not got involved.

The judge said the door staff were a “credit to their employers”.

Sutton police Sergeant Dave Jarvis said their actions and evidence had taken a very dangerous man off the streets of Sutton.

Sgt Jarvis added: “In my 17 years service, I have never seen or heard evidence given so professionally by members of the public.

“All three were confident in what they had seen and done and stood up to cross-examination, both firmly and yet politely.”
