Hundreds of Croydon residents braved the wind and rain to gather in the streets for The Big Lunch.
Locals joined their neighbours at lunches held around the borough as part of the national initiative aiming to encourage communities to come together and break bread.
The lunches went ahead on July 19, with more than 200 people attending a central event in Surrey Street.
A children’s entertainer, jazz band and a free barbeque kept the residents entertained despite the unfortunate weather.
Croydon market inspector Fiona Woodcock said: “There was a great community atmosphere all day.
“People from all parts of the community contributed so we were treated to food from all parts of the world.
“The lunch has sewn the seed for future to be bigger and better.
“I can see it being a fantastic event all over the country and a great way to improve community relations.”
