Potholes in Surrey are being repaired faster after a recent blitz, Surrey County Council has claimed.
Figures showed 90 per cent of minor defects are now being repaired on time and right first time.
Meanwhile, 90 per cent of complaints were being answered within 20 days.
The response rate has got faster after pothole reports started going straight to the contractors Carillion and Ringway, instead of being examined by an inspector first.
Repairs are also being filled to the shape of the pothole, instead of being made square or rectangular, which is less pretty but allows three times more holes to be filled every day.
Stuart Proffitt, Carillion general manager for the Surrey roads contract, said: “By working in partnership with Surrey County Council and by listening to the public we have been able to identify areas where we can build on and improve efficiency and value for money.
“This is reflected in the positive statistics, in particular improved response times to the public, which we are very pleased about.”
