A Romanian man who was founded hanged in Battersea Park had lost his job and broken up with his girlfriend, an inquest heard.

Mihai Petraulea, of Earlham Grove, Battersea, was found by Genevieve Findlay, a dog walker, on May 26 near the Tropical Gardens.

The 30-year-old was last seen the previous Saturday evening when he went drinking with friends.

Westminster Coroner’s Court heard on Tuesday, July 21, how Mr Petreulea had worked as a chef, a waiter and a barman before moving into catering, where he remained until his death.

Coroner’s officer Steven Earl told the court that Mr Petraulea had been struggling with his rent, had lost his job as a caterer and had broken up with a girl he was in a relationship with.

No drugs or alcohol were found in his blood and there was no evidence of a suicide note.

Mr Petraulea’s brother, Radu, confirmed he had no history of depression.

Dr Peter Wilkins confirmed that a ‘deep groove’ was found around Mr Petraulea’s neck and this strongly indicated that he had committed suicide.

Mr Petraulea’s brother questioned the police’s handling of the crime scene.

He claimed the lady who found his brother said that his clothes were dry when she found him, despite it having rained for two days prior to the discovery of the body.

Dr Knapman adjourned the case until August 13 in order for police to satisfy Radu Petraulea’s queries.
