A man who tried to sell faulty TVs as new from his van has been sentenced at Croydon Crown Court.
Hughie McGinley sold the four sets packaged to look brand new, but three turned out to have been stripped down to empty shells and one was found to be dangerous.
He was caught in October last year in the car park at Valley Park Retail Park.
Croydon Council's trading standards team found the four TVs and several hundred pounds of cash in the back of his van.
Judge Heather Baucher said McGinley's actions were fraudulent and sentenced him to 120 hours of unpaid community work for offences under consumer protection and electrical safety laws.
McGinley was also ordered to pay £1,000 in costs.
Councillor Gavin Barwell, the council's cabinet member for community safety and cohesion, said there was evidence sales of TVs in car parks were still going on and a further two arrests had since been made.
He added: "Anyone who sells TVs from the back of a van is likely to be endangering the safety and the wallet of those reckless enough to purchase one.
"It is vital that we stamp out this activity in Croydon."
