Life is proving more straightforward near Sutton town centre after an unpopular double roundabout was removed as part of a £100,000 scheme.

Members of the council’s Local Committee also arranged for new pavements and bins to be installed in the shopping area between Lind Road and The Broadway.

Councillor Janet Lowne, chairman of the committee, said: “The area is a real shopping hub with a great deli, cafe and bakery and there’s a real desire to support businesses.

“These improvements will really boost that sense of neighbourhood and, I hope, encourage even more people to take advantage of what is on offer.

“One of the best ways you can influence services in your area is to come along to the local committee meetings with ideas about what you want to see.”

Josh Ginex, owner of Hair in The Broadway, said: “I think it’s a great improvement and has really regenerated the area.

“I’ve been here for 20 years and the area was getting a bit tired but, with the changes to the roundabout, it has really brought the place back to life.”
