Sutton Council is offering a limited number of compost bins at bargain prices to encourage composting this summer.
The offer is designed to help residents do their bit for the environment at very little cost. Compost bins are available from as little as £27 including delivery.
About 15,000 compost bins have already been distributed in the borough since the scheme was set up.
Councillor Colin Hall, executive member for environment on Sutton Council, said: “If you want to do your bit to help the environment, but aren’t sure how to incorporate recycling into an already busy lifestyle, then composting at home is an easy way to make a difference.”
Recycling kitchen and garden waste by putting it in a compost bin not only produces nutritious compost to help gardens bloom, but it also reduces the amount of waste left for collection and sent to landfill.
About a third of household waste can be composted at home. This includes kitchen and household waste, such as egg shells, kitchen paper, fruit and vegetable peelings, tea bags and even shredded bank statements, as well as garden waste – grass cuttings, pruning’s and twigs.
Visit recyclenow.com/compost or call 0845 076 0223 to order a bin. The offer ends on September 30.
