A proposal to extend a bus route to Streatham Vale, poorly served by transport links, has been rejected.
Residents submitted a 500 signature petition to the London Assembly calling for an extension of the G1 bus route along the length of Streatham Vale.
They said this would improve access for residents to Norbury, St George’s Hospital, and a relocated GP surgery.
But Transport for London (TfL) said it would not extend the service because it would compromise the reliability of an already lengthy route.
London Assembly member for Lambeth and Southwark, Valerie Shawcross, said it was “very disappointing” TfL had rejected local people’s concerns and needs.
She said: “‘The aim was to make accessing the banks and shops in Norbury High Road easier – particularly important after Streatham Vale post office was closed.
“We want to try and reduce vehicle emissions, but sadly, this decision will mean that it remains the case that the easiest way to access local services is by car”.
