Benefits totalling £6m have been claimed by needy residents with help from a dedicated welfare rights service set up by Lambeth Council.
The Every Pound Counts team helps people aged 60 and over, those who are living with long-term illness, disability or sensory impairment, and children suffering health problems or with other additional support needs.
The team advises people on their benefit rights, visits them in their homes if they are housebound, and helps them fill in the forms to claim what they are entitled to.
Lambeth’s cabinet member for health and wellbeing, Councillor Lorna Campbell, said: “With the current downturn in the economy, it is even more important than ever that everyone should claim all the money to which they are rightfully entitled.”
To find out if you can get extra financial support, call the service on 020 7926 5555 or email everypoundcounts@lambeth.gov.uk.
