A New Malden man arrested on suspicion of setting alight the rear of a Korean restaurant on June 1 has been released without charge.
The release is the second time this year that a suspect has been released without charge following investigations into fires in the town, with a lack of eye-witnesses and forensic evidence leaving police unable to track down the arsonist.
Police were called to the blaze at the back of the restaurant in Burlington Road, after a member of the public smelled smoke, and later arrested the 22-year-old at his home before bailing him until July 13.
Another spate of fires hit the area in February, while on March 29 firefighters were led on a merry dance through the town when three bins were set on fire within the space of an hour.
PC Chris Lunt from Kingston CID said police would continue to patrol the area in an attempt to prevent any further fires.
