Police have launched a fresh appeal for information following a fatal arson attack in Tooting, the same day a 15-year-old girl who died following the blaze was buried.
Funeral prayers were held for Maleha Masud this afternoon at Balham Mosque, before her burial in Morden.
Maleha died on June 25, four days after the attack on her Lessingham Avenue home.
Her sister Nabiha, 21, and brother Junaid, 16, are still in a critical condition in hospital, suffering from burns and smoke inhalation.
Their brother Zain Masud, 22, was released from hospital last week and attended today’s service with his mother Rubina, 53.
Outside the family’s home, where several flowers have been laid, Detective Chief Inspector Damian Allain, of the Metropolitan Police, urged witnesses to come forward.
He said. “Did anyone see anything in Lessingham Avenue between 2am and 5am on June 21, or did you see or hear anything that might be useful?”
He said people would have been in the area because of the London to Brighton bike ride, which took place that day, and people in the community held information police needed.
“If people are fearful of coming forward there are special measures that we can employ to conceal your identity,” he said. “People need to examine their loyalties, if they do know something they must come forward.”
Tooting MP Sadiq Khan also appealed to the community for help. He said the Masud’s were a “model family” who were very traumatised.
“This family lost their dad two years ago and they lost their youngest child.
"Please help them any way you can. For this to happen to this family beggars belief," he said.
“You may know something you think is trivial but it may be very important.”
He added catching those responsible, while not replacing the family’s loss, would be “of comfort”.
Police say petrol was poured through the letterbox of the family’s home about 4.35am on June 21.
Rubina and Zain jumped from a first-floor window to escape the blaze, but the other siblings had to be rescued by firefighters.
Nabiha was resuscitated by paramedics in the front garden.
A 14-year-old has been charged with murder and four counts of attempted murder. He will appear at the Old Bailey in September.
