Two security guards were threatened at gunpoint during a robbery at the Nationwide bank in Wallington High Street.
Flying Squad detectives were alerted after two men, one armed with a handgun, escaped with cash on Monday night.
The incident follows another bank robbery last Thursday when a masked robber escaped with cash after ambushing a security van driver outside Barclay’s bank in North Cheam.
The unarmed man was seen punching the courier as he left the London Road branch at about 1pm last Thursday.
Paramedics treated the G4S cash services worker for minor injuries at the scene, which remained sealed for several hours.
Speaking about Monday's incident, a Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “Officers were called to reports of a cash-in-transit robbery at about 9pm on Monday.
“Two security guards were delivering money to the cashpoint when they were threatened by two male suspects, who entered the bank and left with a quantity of cash.”
The length of the road, from the station by Beddington Gardens to Sainsbury’s in Stafford Road, was sealed while Sutton police investigated.
