Flytippers dumping breeze blocks in primary school driveway abandoned their truck after being caught in the act by police.

The rogues were in the process of dumping the blocks in the driveway of Kensington Avenue Primary School in Thornton Heath when a passing police car spotted them in the act.

Before officers could turn around their car, the flytippers fled the scene, abandoning their truck.

Pammy Bhambra-Kaura, who runs a holiday play scheme for children aged between four and thirteen, said the incident happened at about 2.20pm.

She said: “They drove in and we thought someone was removing stuff from the school grounds.

“As one of the parents tried to go out she saw stuff all over the driveway, breeze blocks and bits of wood.

“There was a police car parked in front of the lorry.

“The police were driving past when they were flytipping, the blokes ran off.”

She said they had been trying to clear the blocks out of the way and hoped the truck would be moved by tomorrow.

A police spokeswoman said: "We can confirm that at 2.19pm a police unit came across direct an incident of flytipping by a lorry in Kensington Avenue. The load was blocking a drive-way that was in use by the school. Police contacted the council."

A council spokeswoman said: “We are aware of the situation, environmental officers have been on site all afternoon clearing the blocks.

“A van is in the way blocking access to the bricks.

“It is our intention to get them moved as soon as possible.”
