A man was stabbed to death last night at a house in Windmill Road.

Ambulance services were called and he was taken to hospital at about 8.30pm but died at 11.50pm of mutiple stab wounds.

Two men have been arrested in connection with the murder.

Neighbours told the Croydon Guardian they were shocked about the violent murder on their doorsteps.

Pushpendra Bakshi, 32, said: "I was cooking upstairs when we saw a lot of vehicles outside, a lot of police cars turned up and went into the house.

"Croydon is getting worse by the day, this is the second or third incident in this area in a couple of months."

Another neighbour Mrs Kolarick said: "I actually met the man when there was an eclipse of the moon. We stood outside and watched it together.

"He seemed like a very nice man. I'm really sad, it's a tragedy."

Another man who did not wish to be named said: "You can see where it happened, the windows and doors are all smashed in at the house and it is all cordonned off."

A London Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We were called last night at 8.25pm top a report of a stabbing on Windmill Rd in Croydon.

"We sent two fast response cars, two ambulance crews and a medical team in a car to the scene where staff treated a man reported to be 50 years old for serious injuries.

"The patient was taken to Kings College Hospital as a priority and escorted by the doctor from the medical team."

A police spokesman said: "Police were called shortly after 20.30 on Tuesday 28 July to reports of a man stabbed at an address in Windmill Road, Croydon.

"On arrival police discovered a man aged in his mid forties suffering from multiple stab wounds.

"He was taken by ambulance to Kings College Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 23.50.

"We believe we know his identity and are in the process of informing next of kin.

"A post mortem examination and formal identification will take place in due course." Officers from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command are investigating. Two men have been arrested in connection with the investigation and taken to separate south London police stations.
