People who attend Sunday’s Epsom Trainers Day on Epsom Downs will be pleased to know that every detail has been covered, even down to a formal risk assessment of the terrier racing.

It has been held for six years without incident except for one occasion when an over-excited terrier cocked his leg against someone’s trouser leg.

People who attend will be reassured to learn that participating terriers have to be under 15 inches tall, must be kept on a lead except when racing and all owners will be issued with a poo bag and instructions to clean up after their dogs.

The terrier racing is just one of the exciting events on offer on Sunday, August 2, when racing with a difference takes place. Camels will be coming under starter’s orders and the annual Shetland pony derby also takes place.

Epsom Racehorse Trainers Day gets under way from 9am when horse lovers can see the racehorses exercising on the gallops and chat to vets and trainers.

From 10am to 1pm eight trainers will open their yards to the public so people can see the horses at home and watch a bareback jumping display or have a go on a mechanical horse.

Free parking is being laid on at the racecourse and a free bus service will operate to the various yards.

From noon the action moves on to the downs with a falconry display, the terrier and camel racing, stunt riding and a display by the Kings Troop display team.

There will be display of retired racehorses and a human table inter -yard football tournament will be overseen Helen Chamberlain from Sky TV.

All proceeds from the day will go the Epsom Training and Development Fund to benefit Epsom stable staff.

Entrance to the event is £6 per adults, £4 for pensioners and children aged from 12 to 16. Children under 12 go free.
