Epsom Downs Racecourse is to get a new managing director. Rupert Trevelyan will take over from the current boss Nick Blofeld who is due to leave in two weeks.
Mr Trevelyan who comes from a sales and marketing background has been appointed by the Jockey Club to boost the use of the racecourse and grandstand on non-racing days.
During his career he has worked for a number of international blue chip organisations. His most recent job was that of interim director of marketing and membership for the Royal Horticultural Society.
He said: “Naturally, I am very excited at the prospect of taking responsibility for running Epsom Downs Racecourse.
“ With the completion of the new grandstand and a long term sponsor for the Derby in place, the outlook for the course is very positive and it is undoubtedly an exciting time to be taking on this role.”
Paul Fisher, chief operating officer for Jockey Club Racecourses, said: “With it’s unique Act of Parliament restricting Epsom to a maximum of 16 days racing a year and on the back of the substantial investment at the track, we were keen that the successful candidate possessed the necessary skills to enable the course to fulfil its potential as an all year round venue.
"In our view, Rupert is the best qualified to help us achieve that objective.”
