Popular plans for a new community centre in West Norwood have been given financial backing.
Some £14.2m of Private Finance Initiative (PFI) credits towards facilities and services at Norwood Hall have been endorsed by the Government.
The proposal for the building in Knight’s Hill includes a new customer service centre, swimming pool, a gym, dance studio and space for community meetings as well as access to health services.
Councillor Lib Peck, cabinet member for regeneration and housing, said Norwood Hall is a “brilliant scheme” which has been strongly supported by the local community.
And Susan de Swarte, chair of Norwood Forum and member of the project’s community reference group, said: “This is a fantastic major development for Norwood residents and will provide much needed health and leisure facilities in the area.“
There will be a public open day in September where residents will be able to find out more and view initial designs.
