An inventive lover has proposed by mowing the words Marry Me into a field of wheat on Mitchley Hill.
The unusual proposal appeared in the field last week.
It is not known who mowed the message or what the answer was.
Neighbours are mystified as to who has left the proposal but say it is not the first time messages have been left in the field.
One local resident said: “Last year some of the school kids wrote something rude there but I have never heard of a proposal in the field before.”
