Elderly and disabled former users of Kingston Enterprise will receive a letter this week, updating them on the response to their campaign to replace the service which took them shopping and on outings.

Kingston Enterprise closed after two groups stopped funding the £50,000-a-year service, leaving elderly people bereft.

Councillor Bob Steed told the Surrey Comet this week he was attempting to find some way of helping particularly vulnerable users get their shopping.

He also said that if Richmond and Kingston Accessible Transport made another bid to fund Kingston Enterprise to outside bodies, the council would help.

The Comet phone has been ringing non-stop since we asked for names of people who used the service, after Coun Steed said he had not received the names because of a data protection issue, since overcome.

Doreen Thompson, who lives in Surbiton, said: “It was a chance to get out somewhere different and not just to the local shops.”
