A Wandsworth psychiatric doctor has set her sights on winning a medal after qualifying for the World Triathlon Championships.
Tamsin Lewis, who specialises in older people’s mental health, will represent Great Britain in the competition held in Australia on September 12.
The 30-year-old only completed her first triathlon two years ago, but sports are in her blood as her father once competed in the Tour de France and the Olympics.
She said: “I’m thrilled to have qualified for this year’s World Triathlon Championships. Last year I was placed 10th in the event, but this year under my new coach, I’m hoping for a medal.”
The gruelling challenge consists of a 1.5km swim, 40km cycle and 10km run in immediate succession.
She said: “Seeing yourself getting fitter and the changes that happen to your body as a result of the training is fascinating – the body is often capable of a lot more than you can ever imagine possible.”
