A ghostly silence has descended on Kingston Council’s plans to redevelop the prime Cocks Crescent site in the centre of New Malden, with “no current proposals to take this matter forward”, according to a council spokesman.
Users of the site’s popular Crescent and Causeway resource centres, which provide day services to people with learning and physical disabilities, were furious at a perceived council plot to make room for new housing by moving them off site.
Guidelines for a potential “development partner” were set down by the Council’s executive committee on January 13, detailing how the authority envisaged the site should be improved and modernised with new facilities and housing.
But a council spokesman said: “Since the adoption of the new development brief for Cocks Crescent in January 2009 the council has taken no action.
“It has not sought to progress the procurement of a development partner or to seek expressions of interest from development companies.
“A decision would need to be taken to progress this and there are no current proposals to take this matter forward.”
