Croydon’s summer festival is back in town this weekend showcasing an eclectic mix of music, with both the world party and mela events.

And with this year’s world party headliners being the Proclaimers, expect people to walk 500 miles, and maybe even 500 more, to attend the biggest event in Croydon this year.

Also on the main stage on Saturday is legendary disco star Candi Staton, who shot to fame in 1976 with hit Young Hearts Run Free before making waves in the dance scene with floor filler classic You Got the Love.

On the world stage, Latin Dub Sound System head a stellar line up which includes Eduardo Niebla Experience, Alejandro and the Magic Tombolinos, The Worm and De’borah.

Other events on Saturday include the Green Dragon bandstand, with a wide range of musicians, and the Community Stage featuring Croydon Clocktower’s young arts ambassadors.

The world party takes place on August 1 from 1pm to 8.30pm followed the next day by the Croydon Mela festival.

Hitting the headline spot on the Sunday will be Malkit Singh, hailed the ‘King of Bhangra’ due to his original style, melodious voice and unique music representing the true traditional Punjabi culture to audiences worldwide.

Other acts on the main stage include Veronica, one of the UK's finest Asian female artists, Channi Singh - referred to as the Godfathers of Bhangra, and Swami.

The ARCC classical stage sees Bireswar Gautamb take top slot with Hanna Mannila and Dylon Sivam performing earlier.

The Surtaal Bandstand has music, dance and singing programmed by Surtaal Performing Arts with a special folk set by Baluji Shrivastav and Yousuf Ali Khan.
