A Kingston-based media doctor has helped raise more than £10,000 for charity by completing a 300-mile bike ride from London to Paris.
Rob Hicks, who works at the Wolverton Centre for Sexual Health at Kingston Hospital, joined three fellow TV doctors to form Team GP for the event.
They rode down the Champs Elysees with 600 other cyclists before finishing under the Eiffel Tower on Saturday, July 25.
The team spent four days in the saddle riding between 60 and 90 miles each day.
Mr Hicks, who writes for various magazines including Men’s Fitness and Prima Baby, completed the ride with Dawn Harper and Pixie McKenna, presenters of Channel 4’s Embarrassing Bodies series, and Dr Sarah Jarvis from BBC1’s The One Show.
He said: “I began this journey wanting to raise money for a great cause, to get fit and have some fun, all of which I’ve done.
“It’s hard to describe the incredible emotion and sense of achievement I felt cycling down the Champs Elysees with all the cyclists who had taken part in the ride, but put simply, it was fantastic.”
Money raised will go to Action Medical Research’s Touching Tiny Lives appeal, which aims to reduce life-threatening pregnancy complications and premature births while improving care for sick babies.
