A little boy who suffers from leukaemia was given surprise gifts bought with money raised by one of his neighbours.
Three-year-old Jack Devonport, received the toys from Hayley Andrews, 39, who owns the shop Cup Cakes, in Sutton, and raised over £90 in customer tips, in just two weeks.
Jack’s mum Becci Harman, 29, from Tadworth, was overwhelmed by the initiative: “Since Jack was diagnosed we’ve been receiving lots of support.
“It’s amazing when you’re in trouble and your friends and family are there for you. It’s a really nice gesture and we just can’t believe the kindness.”
Lots of toys, including a trampoline, were given to a surprised Jack on Saturday, as his mum, dad Lee, and younger brother Finley, looked on.
Miss Andrews said: “We put a jar up and in only two weeks we managed to raise about £90. I could not believe it.
“We heard Jack was ill and we wanted to do something nice for him.”
The family are neighbours with Miss Andrews in Tadworth, but were not expecting them to do a little fundraiser and a party to help the tot feel better.
Miss Harman said: “We don’t really know Hayley that well. We’re neighbours, and when she heard Jack was ill with leukaemia, she decided to do this really nice thing and we’re very happy about it.”
Leukaemia is the most common childhood cancer, affecting up to 500 children every year in the UK. About one third of all childhood cancers are some kind of leukaemia.
