Casuals’ pre-season form continues to impress after a well deserved victory over Ryman League One North side Tilbury, who won the Isthmian League Cup last season and finished comfortably in mid-table.
The first quarter of the game was run by the amateurs with their new look team playing with great confidence and no little style.
Al Wiltshire, a new striker, cleverly found room on the right and crossed low and hard across the box for Glenn Boosey to apply a firm finish.
Boosey missed further chances after being set up by Jamel Carr and Kane Sergeant but the quality of the build up play in both moves was pleasant to see.
The Dockers of Tilbury took a while to get going but took control of the game in the twenty minutes leading up to half time.
They had several near misses from long range before Chris Taylor notched a merited equaliser with a low shot from 18 yards.
The amateurs re-gained control at the start of the second period and this time did not let it go. Eight minutes after the interval David Ocquaye played a lovely ball down the flank for the galloping Martin Dunne to chase.
As with the first goal, Dunne looked up and drove a low cross to the far post where this time Nicky Ogbanufe applied the close range finish.
Casuals could have increased their lead several times. Carr had a close range shot blocked and Ocquaye screwed a shot wide. Boosey came close to adding to his impressive display but drew a fine save from the ‘keeper when the ball seemed destined for the top corner.
He did get his second in stoppage to seal the win when twisting and turning on the edge of the Dockers box, he curled a deft shot around the ‘keeper and into the bottom corner.
