Sustainable Merton is working alongside the council to look into the possibility of the borough becoming a low carbon zone.
A bid is expected to be submitted to the Mayor of London for a slice of £3m funding given to 10 areas across the capital.
Each new low carbon zone will introduce measures to deliver carbon savings in that area and help communities become more sustainable.
A decision over Merton’s bid is expected in September.
