A prolific burglar who was arrested at a Wandsworth hotel after more than two years on the run has been jailed.
Peter O’Halloran, 34, pleaded guilty to burglaries in Surrey, Gloucestershire and Cambridgeshire.
He was finally brought to justice on Wednesday, when he was sentenced to eight years at Gloucester Crown Court.
Speaking outside court, Detective Inspector Martin Goodwin of Surrey Police said: "Let this be a warning to criminals that they cannot evade justice by moving around the country."
Before his arrest at the Holiday Inn, police spent two years looking for O’Halloran to question him in relation to a string of burglaries across England.
He was also on recall to prison for breach of licence conditions.
The value of the items recovered is estimated to be more than £100,000 and many treasured possessions have already been returned to their owners.
Speaking outside court, Detective Sergeant Dave Doherty from the Gloucestershire Constabulary said: "We hope this case serves as further evidence of our ability to work together to investigate cross-border offences as well as our determination to bring suspects to justice, no matter where in the country they are."
O’Halloran, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to nine counts of burglary and one of transferring criminal property.
