Xtremely successful – that was the verdict on the recent youth leisure day held in Rosebery Park, Epsom.
More than 1,000 young people turned out to enjoy a huge variety of activities and sports, including sumo wrestling, dancing and even ride a wild rodeo bull.
There was live music, stalls and sideshows to keep everyone entertained throughout the day.
This year’s events were set up on the advice of a young people’s steering group and there were young volunteers on hand throughout the day help to make sure things went smoothly.
A “have your say” tent offered participants a chance to say what they would do if they were mayor for a day, chief of police or even Prime Minister. They answered questions on public transport and youth issues by writing postcards, placing stickers on posters and using interactive handheld devices.
Councillor Clive Woodbridge, chairman of the leisure committee said, “Every year this event gets better and better. It was designed by young people for young people and judging by the response on the day, it was the best Youth Leisure Day yet.
