Anyone dropping litter in Reigate and Banstead schools is in for a hard time.
For the first time in 10 years all the borough’s 48 schools took part in the Litter Free Schools Award, with 43 achieving a gold award, three silver and two bronze.
The mayor of Reigate and Banstead, Councillor Richard Mantle and Councillor Julian Ellacott, executive member for the environment, handed out awards with a little help from Cosmo the Toad, the council’s environmental mascot.
Pupils at the participating schools worked hard to keep their school’s clean in anticipation of visits from the council’s inspectors who visited each school twice. During the visits marks were given for the cleanliness of different areas.
