Visitors from Denmark who stayed with us recently were astonished by the state of Surrey's roads. They just could not believe that so many potholes were left on busy main thoroughfares. But that was nothing compared to the lack of police on our streets.
Seeing a defective car they said something to the effect that they would soon be in trouble with the police. I challenged them to tell me when they next saw a police officer. They were here for 6 days and no one who lives in Surrey will be surprised to hear how many they saw. None.
They couldn't wait to get back home and tell their countrymen just how lucky they are to live in such a well-policed country where the roads are kept in tip-top condition.
