An artist with 12 different personalities has been nominated for a Croydon Champions award by her adoring daughter.

Kim Noble, 47, has dissociative identity disorder (DID).

The serious condition, a coping mechanism to deal with severe trauma, means Miss Noble has 12 distinct personalities, some of which have no memory or knowledge of her other identities.

All of her personalities are artists and each has a distinct creative style, one favours sculpture while her latest alter-ego prefers painting dark scenes in the small hours.

Her paintings range from solitary desert to sea scenes, abstracts, collages and paintings depicting traumatic events.

Kim has had 27 exhibitions across Europe in the last four years.

The mum, of Broad Green, got a bit tearful when she learned her 12-year-old daughter Aimee nominated her for an award.

She said: “I’m chuffed to bits and very proud my daughter thought to nominate me.”

Miss Noble has been in and out of hospital since she was 14, but was not correctly diagnosed with DID until 1995.

She was introduced to painting in therapy four years ago.

In her nomination Amy wrote a poem about her mum.

She wrote: “There is a slight difference, look and see, she has DID.

“Twelve artists live inside her and struggle to be.

“The one with the paint brush and talking to me “Some are big, some are small, yet I love them all.”

Aimee, a pupil at Riddlesdown School, said her mother’s condition has fluctuated over the years but there has been a real improvement since she took up art.

She said: “The art therapy has helped her look after me and led to the care order being lifted.”

She said she gets on well with all of her mother’s personalities.

Miss Noble’s work has received widespread critical acclaim.

She is to be the subject of a documentary next year and has been approached about having a book written about her art and medical condition.

The art is currently on display in Chichester and she will be exhibiting it later in the year in Valencia and Holland.
