Lambeth will be one of the first areas in the country to trial a new peer support network for people with dementia and their families.

The pilot scheme will see the introduction of healthy ageing cafes in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Society where people can meet.

A simple social networking forum will also be set up, allowing people with dementia to network with others.

The pilot was announced by care services minister Phil Hope and will offer dementia sufferers to take an active role in developing local services.

In the second year of the scheme, there are plans to train community and voluntary organisations to improve support given to minority groups.
