Remember the Rembrandt in Ewell as it was in its heyday, before its sad demise, eventual demolition and replacement by flats?

Remember the Kings Head in Epsom, demolished in 1957 to make way for a shopping precinct?

And how about St Joseph’s Church? Pulled down twice in the name of progressive development.

Many “lost buildings” in Epsom and Ewell, including dozens of former well-known landmarks, have been resurrected for an exhibition at Bourne Hall which will be on display until August 15.

Memories will inevitably be triggered by the sight of the old Epsom High Street as it was before the war and throughout its widening. Pictures of Woolworths in 1937 will trigger nostalgic thoughts of the way we were before the war.

Visitors will be able to recall the old Jolly Waggoners, in Ewell, another building that was demolished and rebuilt in the 1950s only to be demolished again in the 1990s.

Among other lost buildings featured in the show will be the castellated folly which stood in Bourne Hall gardens, and the old Bourne Hall itself before demolition and rebuilding in the spaceship design that won it recognition on Blue Peter.
