An Epsom schoolgirl has climbed every mountain to appear with the talent-contest winner Connie Fisher in the Sound of Music tour.
The valleys were alive with the sound of Jade Gill Martinez, seven, this week after the production opened at the Millennium Centre in Cardiff.
It is likely to be the final run before Fisher 26, winner of the BBC show How Do you Solve a Problem like Maria?, brings the curtain down on her role.
This week Jade’s mother, Jo, said it would be an honour to see her daughter, who attends Epsom Stagecoach school, play the part of Gretl von Trapp alongside the singing star.
She said: “Jade is really excited and proud of herself because she put a lot of effort into practising, watching the DVD of the Sound of Music over and over again.
“She is not the youngest in the cast but she is one of the smallest, so she gets a lot of attention, which is very sweet.
“We met Connie Fisher and the rest of the cast and they were all lovely people.”
The production, seen by more than 2m spectators since opening at the London Palladium in November 2006, is showing in Cardiff until August 29.
