Top Gear presenter James May will be at Brooklands Museum this month to take part in an attempt to break a world record for an upcoming TV series.
The star has masterminded a bid to build a Scalextric version of the famous 2.75 mile Brooklands Circuit for his new BBC show James May’s Toy Stories at the Pendle Slot Racing Festival, taking place at the museum on Sunday, August 16.
The TV programme will show how a number of obstacles were overcome in laying the track, including the River Wey, office buildings and the dual carriageway roads near Tesco.
Once complete, two teams will then race each other - one made up of local residents and volunteers from the museum and the other consisting of Scalextric Club members.
It is expected that the record-breaking race will start after 4pm and before this there will be a full day of other activities.
A Brooklands feature race will take place in the Chequered Flag Room at the museum and visitors will be able to bring along their own slot racing cars to attempt the Test Hill Challenge or battle it out on the Get Slotted Drag Strip being set up underneath the museum’s Concorde.
A slot car swap meet will be another attraction, while visitors can enjoy the Scalextric and Corgi Road shows together with an Airfix make and paint activity.
The day starts at 10am and the museum site will stay open until the race has been completed. All the usual Brooklands Museum displays and attractions will be open.
