Police are on the look out for a man with an artificial hand who was seen acting suspiciously near a hotel in Weybridge that was burgled at the same time.
A number of items, including a laptop, a pair of black leather shoes and various toiletries, were stolen from seven rooms in the Ship Hotel in Weybridge High Street between 4pm and 6.10pm on Wednesday, July 22.
Following the incident, the police received a number of calls from people who said they had seen a man with an artificial hand in the car park of the hotel at about the same time the incident took place.
The man was white, in his late 30s and slim. He was wearing jeans and a dark jacket and was seen smoking in the car park.
Detective Constable Damien McIntyre, leading the investigation, said: “I am very keen to speak to the man seen in the car park of the hotel as he may be able to provide vital information to allow us to progress this investigation.
“These cynical burglaries were carried out over a short period of time by an opportunistic offender.
“I can assure Weybridge residents that everything possible is being done to track down those responsible.”
A spokesman for the police said officers had also provided additional security advice to the hotel.
Anyone who with any information should call DC McIntyre at Staines CID on 0845 1252222, quoting reference EL/09/6010, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
