A network of groups who will provide support and activities for older people in Lambeth has been launched by the council.
The Gateway Network involves a consortium of five groups, co-ordinated by Age Concern Lambeth, who will run clubs on a neighbourhood basis.
Healthy living activities, befriending services and housebound library services, as well as advice, will also be offered as part of the network.
The consortium will also run a range of preventative services for older people in Lambeth, aiming to help them remain independent and active.
Currently the consortium includes the Vassall Elderly Group, West Indian Ex-Servicemen/Women association, Basaira, Streatham Darby and Joan Club and Norwood Pensioners Group/ University of the Third Age Consortium.
Councillor Lorna Campbell, cabinet member for older people, said: “This unique arrangement will empower older people and put them at the heart of controlling and shaping services that will meet their needs.”
